‘Whose Life Is It Anyway??

Goodrich-After more than 13 years at the helm of the high school theatrics department, Steve Mitchell has, on occasion, nudged the outer edges of controversial plays.
Audiences seeking to escape the mundane should check out the high school performance of ‘Whose Life Is It Anyway??
‘I like to pick some shows that make people think,? said Mitchell. ‘I’m pushing the boundaries with ‘Whose Life Is It Anyway?? I know this is a community play, but I also want to give the students good stories to work with, too.?
‘Whose Life Is It Anyway?? is a play by Brian Clark taken from his 1972 television play. A successful sculptor with a beautiful girlfriend and everything to live for’an ideal life that changes drastically.
Set in a hospital room, the story revolves around Ken Harrison, who was paralyzed from the neck down (quadriplegia) in a car accident. Harrison is determined to be allowed to die. The play presents arguments both in favor of and opposing euthanasia and the degree government should be allowed to interfere in the life of a private citizen. The play portrays Harrison as an intelligent man with a useless body, he leaves the audience with conflicting feelings about his desire to take his life.
‘The subject matter promotes discussion,? said Mitchell. ‘Our posters explains there’s some adult content. At the same time there’s nothing you can’t watch on CSI or some cable show. It’s not a kids show, but it should prompt debate.?
