An aggressive 40 year old Madison Heights woman managed to punch two police officers and damage a police vehicle before being taken to the Oakland County Jail on July 25.
According to Lake Orion Police Chief Jerry Narsh, the suspect, Shelly Thomas, and family members were at Muy Loco’s on Front Street in the village.
Thomas allegedly was arguing with her 20 year old daughter before beginning a physical fight. A bar patron called police saying the two ‘were really going at it.?
When the officer arrived, it appeared the daughter had minor injuries due to the assault.
Narsh said the officer took Thomas outside the bar. She immediately punched him in the face as he approached her to question her and was immediately arrested and placed in the patrol unit.
‘Once placed in the back seat, she began kicking at the left-rear door window, damaging the window frame, bending it away from the door about two inches,? Narsh said.
Upon arrival at the police department, Thomas punched another officer. Due to her violent nature, Narsh said, she was taken directly to Oakland County Jail.
He indicated she had been drinking.
At her arraignment on July 27, Thomas was charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer (two year felony); one count, malicious destruction of property (4 year felony); one count, assault on her daughter.
She was released on a $20,000/10 percent bond.
‘I want to warn folks they changed the statue two years ago. Now it’s a felony to unlawfully and physically hinder, oppose or assault an officer. These are serious charges,? Narsh said.
