For young and old, the annual Big Rig Gig at Friendship Park was a sight to behold.
The Orion Township Parks and Recreation Department again sponsored the event, held at the park at the corner of Clarkston and Baldwin Roads on Aug. 13. The event didn’t begin until 5 p.m., but Jennifer Rowe of the parks department said she had people showing up as early as 3 p.m.
‘We had about 700 kids and 1,200 people total,? she said. ‘I was hoping for at least 1,000, so we were happy.?
The event featured a variety of ‘big rigs? including cranes, semi trucks, fire trucks, school buses, and vehicles, motorcycles and other equipment from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department.
Rowe said they had more ‘big rigs? then they did last year, and even she was surprised at the amount.
The first 500 children to arrive were rewarded with a free construction hat, and the parks and recreation department offered kids the chance to get their picture taken with one of the rigs.
