The Oxford Village Council last night approved placing two stops signs at the intersection of East St. and Louck St./Edison Alley.
The additional stop signs would affect eastbound and westbound traffic on East St. and make the intersection a four-way stop.
Two stop signs already exist at the intersection for northbound and southbound traffic between Louck St. and Edison Alley.
Village Police Chief Mike Neymanowski requested the additional signage for a number of reasons, the main one being the ‘blind spot? for those traveling southbound on Louck St.
The chief said when southbound Louck St. drivers approach the intersection, they must ‘creep out? and look to the east to make sure no westbound traffic is coming.
This creates a safety hazard for drivers.
‘Fortunately, there have been no accidents,? Neymanowski said. But he wants to ‘put (signs) up before we have one.?
Neymanowski also noted that Louck and East streets are part of a ‘regular route? for Oxford Fire Department emergency vehicles coming to and from the main station on Church St. and M-24.
In addition to the stop signs, council also voted to place two 25 mile-per-hour speed limit signs at the north and south ends of Oxford Lakes Drive.
Neymanowski said Oxford Lakes residents have expressed some concerns about speeding on that street, which typically serves as a cut-through route between Drahner and Lakeville roads.
The chief characterized Oxford Lakes Drive as a ‘more-than-average traveled residential street.?
He said the signs will hopefully serve to ‘remind people? that the speed limit is 25 mph.
