Independece Township Parks and Recreation will bring in the holiday season with the eighth annual Family Holiday Fest on Dec. 3 and 4.
Bay Court Park becomes a winter wonderland providing fun and entertainment for the whole family.
‘This is one of our favorite events, so we put alot of time and effort into it,? said recreation programmer Kelly Hyer.
Those attending the extravaganza will be wowed by over 60,000 lights spread across hundreds of displays at the ‘North Pole.?
New this year are ten eight foot tall inflatable holiday displays including such favorites as Spongebob Squarepants, the Grinch, Shrek, Scooby-Doo and Mickey Mouse.
People looking to warm up can enjoy a steamy cup of hot cocoa. Those feeling a little peckish can snack on holiday cookies and engage in marshmallow roasting.
Attendees looking for a little more substance for their bellies will be able to purchase hot dogs to grill.
After warming themselves by the fire, guests can strike out into the wilderness on a horse drawn wagon ride while listening to delightful holiday music supplied by the CHS Madrigals, Cedar Crest Academy percussion group and two local churches.
Finally, once the children are ready to sit down, they can do so in style and get their picture taken with Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Santa and his better half are on a tight schedule, so only one photo per child will be possible.
Tickets have been on sale for this event since Nov. 2 and are $5 per resident and $7 per non-resident if purchased in advance. Families of five can secure a group discount for $20 if they live in the area, $25 if they are from elsewhere. Parks and Recreation will have a limited supply of tickets onsite for $7.
The Family Holiday Fest will run 6-9 p.m. on Dec. 3 and 5-9 p.m. on Dec. 4.
Tickets can be purchased at the Independence Township Parks and Recreation office. Alternatively, people who absolutely must attend this affair, but are unable to stop by Parks and Recreation can print out a registration form online at www.twp.independence.mi.us.
