In Brandon Township the sky above Brandon Middle School is set to be lit up July 2.
It’s not the aurora borealis, but fireworks that are scheduled for a holiday celebration beginning at dusk. Wolverine Fireworks will put on a 30-minute show at Brandon Middle School at a cost of $8,000. The township and the Greater Area of Ortonville Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring the show. In case of rain, the show will be July 3. Parking at the middle school, James Lumber and MacPhee’s Restaurant is prohibited during the show. Donations are being accepted.
In Hadley Township grab those tricycles and clear your calendars. Hadley volunteers are gearing up for a three-day celebration.
The Hadley Township Chamber of Commerce Fourth of July parade and festivities will take place July 2 through 4 in the heart of Hadley, featuring music, a patriotic tribute, two parades, and lots of food.
If you sing or play an instrument, get ready for the Country Jamboree from 2 to 6 p.m. July 2 at the Hadley Road Town Hall, featuring an open microphone and the sounds of the Stone Country Band.
On Sunday, a free Christian concert will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. July 3 at Hartwig Mill, near Hadley Road south of Pratt Road. The concert will feature praise music and prayers offered for the protection of U.S. troops, says organizer Barbara Beck, of the Hadley Chamber of Commerce, with puppets and clowns for the children.
Food and drink sales will benefit chamber scholarship fund, and a military ‘tree of life? will be decorated with a flag and cross bearing the names of more than 100 local service personnel. Family members are encouraged to pick up decorations the day of the concert, and send them as a show of support.
The July 4 line-up of events will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., starting with a Town Hall Boy Scout pancake breakfast; pick up coffee, pizza, grinders, and ice cream at The Parlour, 3527 Hadley Road; or buy grocery items at the Hadley General Store across the street.
Whether walking or riding decorated bicycles, children line up beginning at 9:30 a.m. for the Kids? Parade at the Hadley Road ball field, south of Hadley Community Church, 3638 Hadley Road. Every child gets to choose their favorite color ribbon for participating. This year’s Kids? Parade route will run the same course as the Main Parade, which begins at noon sharp.
The Main Parade’which has been known to feature tractors, motorcycles, fire trucks, alpacas, animals of all kinds, equestrian teams, floats, and numerous groups’will head north on Hadley Road, turning east on Spring Street, north on East Street, west on Pratt Road, south on Second Street, and east again on Spring Street.
The Lions Club will offer hot dogs, bratwurst, or kielbasa sausage beginning at 10 a.m. at the Old Feed Store south of Hadley’s General Store, or stop by the Town Hall at 11 a.m. for lunch, served by parents of local Boy Scouts.
From noon to 3 p.m., Hadley Acres Golf & Country Club, located at 3797 Hadley Road, will serve a barbecued chicken smorgasbord, or choose from a full menu of meal items.
Look for portable toilets in three locations: the ball field, the Town Hall, and Old Mill Park.
