Lions sweep past Mt. Zion

The Lake Orion Baptist Lions boys basketball team had a win over the Mt. Zion Christian School Lions of Waterford. Lake Orion Baptist won the game by a score of 61-58 on Feb. 18.
Lake Orion’s leading scorer was junior Brandon Watterworth, with 22 points, 19 rebounds, and 13 steals, including five blocked shots, for his first triple-double of the year. He also had two assists.
Senior Matt Verley had 12 points and 11 rebounds, along with four steals and one blocked shot. Junior Justin Rettger had 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals, having played only 12 minutes due to foul trouble.
Freshman Cole Welby had four points, one rebound and one steal. Freshman Chris Pigeon had four points and three rebounds. Freshman Jon Moreno, who alternates with Welby at point guard, had two points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Lake Orion controlled the backboards with 47 rebounds (22 offensive and 25 defensive), to Mt. Zion’s total of 22. Lake Orion had 24 steals, which included seven blocked shots, to Mt. Zion’s 22 steals.
Bruce Sheridan had 16 points for Mt. Zion, including four three-pointers. Mt. Zion had two additional players with double figures. Predo Lopez had 14 points, including four three-pointers, and Corel Allen had 10 points, with two three-pointers. In total, Mt. Zion players hit 12 from the three-point range.
Lake Orion Baptist wrapped up their regular season with the game against Mt. Zion, with a regular season record of 8-3, and an overall record of 9-5.
