$3 million bid package ok’d for schools

Work on the current Oxford Middle School can continue running smoothly.
The Oxford Area Community Schools board of education approved the second portion of Bid Package #4 at a total amount of $3,156,431.
“We’re sitting well and everything is moving smoothly,” said project manager David Griggs.
The second bid package includes items such as painting, flooring, the swimming pool materials and a wheel chair lift.
Griggs also informed board members that bond issue construction is right on schedule.
So far workers have completed updates to Daniel Axford, Oxford, and Clear Lake elementaries, and some kitchen work is currently being completed at Lakeville Elementary.
Construction on the new 12-classroom addition at Leonard Elementary is ahead of schedule and will be ready for furniture by the start of May.
“The whole building looks brand new,” said Griggs.
Utilities are 60 percent complete at the middle school, foundations are 85 percent laid down and steel is going up steadily. Griggs said that students should be moving into the new mobile cafeteria by the end of March. A final bid package is still scheduled.
Bid packages for the current high school will be sent out this next week.
