Lady Wolves sunk their first two wins of the new year last week against Chippewa Valley and Pontiac.
“I was pleased with how they played,” said Clarkston Girls Varsity Basketball Coach Tim Wasilk. “They are getting better on the defensive and offensive ends. They are getting comfortable playing with each other on the floor.”
The girls began the week with a 51-41 win at Mount Clemens Chippewa Valley.
“Overall I was very pleased with how we shot from the free throw line,” said Wasilk. “We played a nice floor game. We were in control the entire game.”
Clarkston outscored Chippewa Valley in two quarters. Both teams scored 10 in the second quarter and Chippewa Valley outscored by two in the last quarter.
But the Wolves held a five point lead going into the last half and scored seven more points against their hosts opening the second half.
The girls had another task during their game ? they had to keep Chippewa Valley from shooting three pointers.
“They do a great job with three point shooting,” said Wasilk. “We pressured them. They had a tough time shooting. We did a nice job taking away their three pointers.”
They only had two get past the Lady Wolves.
Lindsey Reppuhn led with 15 points, making eight at the free throw line and a field goal. Delaney Kenny added ten to the board and had three steals and five rebounds. Megan Hastings scored seven points.
Tori Trimmer had eight rebounds.
The girls beat their OAA foes Pontiac High School last Thursday, 48-46.
“It was a toughness win,” added Wasilk.
Clarkston held onto the lead going into the second half with 26-15 on the scoreboard.
The Lady Phoenix came back posting 18 points on the Wolves and kept them to only scoring five in the third quarter.
The girls still had eight minutes to take the lead. For the girls in blue, they only needed the last minute for them to secure a win. Reppuhn was sent to the line after being fouled on. She connected four straight free throw shots in the final moments putting the score where it would remain, 48-46.
“The girls responded with a late Pontiac rally,” said Wasilk. “Pontiac took lead by three we responded making some big shots and making some big plays down the stretch. I was pleased with how they played.”
Reppuhn led the game with 15 points, scoring three field goals during the night.
Hastings added nine points and three steals and Christina Jokisch had eight for the night and five rebounds. Both scored a 3-pointer.
Anna Manilla had six rebounds.
The girls handed Troy their first loss in the OAA on Monday night, 46-31. Putting Clarkston 5-4 overall and 4-4 in the league.
The Lady Wolves rallied 15 points in the first quarter setting the pace for the game and put 11 more on the board at the end of the half.
Defense put up the blocks and kept the Colts down to 15 points during the first three quarters.
Manilla, Hastings and Christina Jokisch added eight points each in the game. Kacy Robinson scored seven points.
The Lady Wolves take on their Lake Orion rivals on Friday night at home and host Rochester Adams next Tuesday.
JV begins at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.
“We are very excited about the rest of this year,” said Wasilk, adding they have a lot of depth on this season’s team and everyone contributes.
“We look to big things this week.”
