Oxford Invite was ‘really smooth,? coach says

The Oxford Invitational held last Saturday ‘went really smooth,? according to Track & Field Head Coach Matt Johnson.
‘It went really well, the meet went smooth and actually stayed on time and on track,? he said. ‘There were a lot of good times despite the heavy wind.?
The Oxford Boys placed eighth and the girls placed sixth out of 16 teams, which included Berkley, Beverly Hills Wylie E Groves, Bloomfield Hills, Clarkston, Lake Orion, Ortonville Brandon, Pontiac, Romeo, Salem, Saline, Troy, Utica Walled Lake Central Warren DeLaSalle Collegiate and Waterford Kettering.
‘Saline who’s always had a dynamic team won both the boys and girls,? added Johnson. ‘They’ve just had a lot of years of growing a program and are one of the best in the state. It was fun to have that level of competition. ?
As far as performing standouts, Briana Jackson set a meet record in the 100 meter with 12.51. ‘I had a lot of kids who couldn’t be there, so it was just an opportunity for other kids who were willing to run a big meet,? Johnson noted.
Earlier in the week the teams traveled to Clarkston, where the boys loss 84 to 44 and the girls 76-52.
‘We actually scored more points than I thought we would. For the boys I thought it would be a greater separation in the score,? Johnson said. ‘It was positive that we scored more than last year and a lot of kids showed up despite the adverse weather conditions to run in and performed very well.?
Dallas Pruitt set the school record for the long jump with 21?10.75 and did a 6?2 high jump. Connor Bandel set another personal record in discus with 138? 11.00, which he broke at the Oxford invitational with 152? 7.00 and he took first in shot put with 53.? Also For the boys Joshua Johnson took first in the 200 meter with 23.6
‘Girls lost another close meet by really narrow margins,? Johnson said. ‘We had a couple of injuries of girls that would have changed how the outcome was, but that’s just a part of track and field and you got to take what you can.?
Brianna Jackson took first in the 100 meter with 12.66, Hannah Long took first in 3200 meter with 12:16, while Victoria Bearse took first place in the Shot put with 32? 7.00 and first in discus with 98?.
