Lake Orion showed some grit in an exciting 64-56 win over Avondale last week in a game that saw the Dragons lose a lead in the third quarter only to come roaring back in the fourth and win going away.
Coach Jim Manzo’s Dragons improved their record to 4-1 in the OAA Crossover match-up. The Dragons were playing Rochester Adams on Tuesday.
Lake Orion held what seemed to be a comfortable 29-16 lead at halftime. They also led by 10 midway through the third quarter.
The Yellow Jackets put on a burst to end the third quarter to tie the game at 40-40.
Avondale then went ahead by four points before Dragon seniors David Gomez and Chris Dudek took over the game and swatted the Yellow Jackets.
Gomez and Dudek accounted for all 24 of Lake Orion’s points in the fourth quarter.
The Gomez onslaught started when he scored seven points to give LO a 47-44 lead with four minutes left. Dudek added a three-pointer 30 seconds later after Avondale tied the game at 47-47.
Gomez then scored six consecutive points to give the Dragons the lead and win.
Gomez finished with 27 points, including 17 in the fourth quarter. Jaylen Wiggins netted nine points and led the Dragons on the boards. ?
