Beverage shop to quench Oxford’s thirst

A new shop in downtown Oxford is ready to quench local thirsts with a wide variety of fine wines and premium beers.
Owned by Metamora residents Dean and Maureen Rondy, the Oxford Wine & Beverage Co. has added a touch of sophistication and class to the downtown area by finally giving oenophiles (wine connoisseurs) and ale aficionados a place to call home.
Located at 25 S. Washington St., the store currently boasts a selection of 850 varieties of wines from all over the world including France, Italy, Australia, South Africa, Spain, Argentina, Portugal and the United States, which includes a “small selection” from Michigan.
“We’re hoping to eventually carry about 1,000 different varieties of wine,” Rondy said.
The Oxford Wine & Beverage Co. offers sparkling wines, ports, sherries, mixed whites, zinfandel, riesling, pinot noir, sauvignon blanc, merlot, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay.
“I think we just about have the whole gambit,” Rondy said.
Rondy is counting on customer input to help expand the store’s wine selection.
“It’s all going to be dictated by our wine customers in town,” he said. “They’re going to have to tell me what they need, what they want. If there’s something not in the shop that you want, let me know and I’ll try to get it.”
But the Oxford Wine & Beverage Co. is much more than just a place to purchase fine wines.
It’s a full service store offering wine tastings, glass rentals, cellar planning, wedding consultations, corporate events, party planning, custom gift baskets and free local delivery.
Need to pair a wine with a special meal, but don’t know what to serve?
Simply bring your menu into the shop and a wine consultant will determine the perfect accompaniment to the meal.
Rondy said he wants each customer’s visit to his shop to be both educational and productive.
For those who prefer a crisp ale or hearty stout to the fruit of the vine, the Oxford Wine & Beverage Co. offers an impressive variety of premium domestic and imported beers from around the world, as well as some from local micro-breweries.
The beer selection is still expanding, but as with the wines, “It’s all going to be dictated by what our customers want,” Rondy said.
More into caffeine than alcohol as your drug of choice?
The Oxford Wine & Beverage Co. carries coffees from the Schuil Coffee Co. of Grand Rapids, which offers the freshest, highest quality Arabic coffee beans on the market today.
Whether its a bag of beans, a quick cup to go or a free sample of something new and exotic – if you’re jonesing for java, they’ve got you covered.
Other available beverages include teas, bottled waters, juices and a special brand of root beer and cream soda imported from Germany.
But man cannot live by beverages alone.
That’s why the Oxford Wine & Beverage Co. also carries a whole host of specialty food items including olives, vinegars, pastas and sauces, crackers, nuts, mustards, hot sauces, salsas and chips, and the finest chocolates from Belgium, The Netherlands, San Francisco and Switzerland.
