Oakland County Sheriff Department Brandon deputies are urging residents to lock their cars at night, and to not leave anything valuable like a wallet in the car. On the night of June 1, a string of larcenies occurred in cars in the south east section of the township, all of which were unlocked.
Six reports were made in the same area to the Brandon substation. One woman stated her husband’s bi-fold wallet was stolen, which included his driver’s license and three credit cards, two of which were charged following the theft at a Walmart and a Meijer.
Another man stated he had forgotten to lock his car on June 1, and on the second he realized his wallet had been stolen.
He checked his email and saw that his credit cards were being used at Meijer and Walmart, and he also said his wallet had $200 in cash that was stolen.
A third person said someone went into his unlocked car and took $30 from his wallet, as well as the numbers from his debit card and had already charged $40 to an inmate phone account. While investigating, deputies were flagged down by a motorist who said he saw two subjects on the westbound side of Sashabaw Road going north around 1 a.m. on June 2, both thin, wearing dark hoodies with the hoods down, one around 6 feet 2 inches and one around 5 feet 8 inches.
Another man said that he leaves a handgun in his center console all the time, and it was stolen along with two, seven round magazines, but that nothing else was taken.
After hearing of the larcenies from a neighbor, another complainant said though his cars were locked, he felt the need to check his boat that was parked in the driveway. There was a bag that held fishing electronics, but he found it was empty and the equipment was missing.
A sixth complainant said that the only thing taken from her car was a single, $1 bill.
Anyone with information on the larcenies can contact the Brandon substation.
