Brandon Twp.—Brandon Schools will be looking for a new athletic director following the resignation of Chris Deines, who has taken a position as athletic director in Corunna to be closer to home.
“Mr. Deines informed me that he had an opportunity as an Athletic Director in Corunna Schools that is much closer to his home and that he intended to apply for this open position. A few days later he informed me that he was offered the position,” said Dan Gilbertson, district superintendent. “Although I did not have the opportunity to work with Mr. Deines this school year, from the interactions I had with him leading up to his resignation, along with the positive comments made by many who work closely with him here in the Brandon Schools, I believe he is an outstanding professional who worked hard on behalf of the student athletes attending our schools.”
Deines was hired as AD originally in 2016. Prior to that he was AD in the Durand school district, and taught physical education and health for six years before that. He was also named Region 9 Athletic Director of the Year in 2021 by the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
“From the interactions I had with him leading up to his resignation, along with the positive comments made by many who work closely with him here in the Brandon Schools, I believe he is an outstanding professional who worked hard on behalf of the student athletes attending our schools.
“Upon receiving Mr. Deines official resignation Tuesday morning, the District has posted the athletic director position and we are in pursuit of selecting a professional who values sportsmanship, is community oriented, and someone who exhibits the professional will to lead and grow all of our athletic and extracurricular club programs to exemplary performance, for all of our student-athletes,” said Gilbertson. “We have to move forward and bring the best person forward in that Athletic Director position.”
