Boys swimming and diving team captures league crown

After an undefeated dual meet season, the Lake Orion High School boys swimming and diving team captured the Oakland Activities Association Division II championship last week at Royal Oak Dondero High School, with a score of 395.
All-league, first place finishes include the medley relay team of Stephen Maniace, Chris Conner, Andrew Kuehl and Brian Desrochers (1:42.05), and Conner in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.76).
Kuehl and Garrett Ruhland also turned in all-league performances in the 100 butterfly (55.86) and 50 freestyle (22.38), respectively. These performances set new varsity swimming records at LOHS.
Other records were set by Conner in the 200 IM (2:06.82), Pat Dodge in the 200 freestyle (1:48.71) and Ricky Forrest in the 500 freestyle (4:58.17).
The 200 freestyle relay team of Ruhland, Dodge, Desrochers and David Brown set a new mark of 1:30.69, while the 400 freestyle relay team of Ruhland, Kuehl, Maniace and Dodge also set a record of 3:18.31.
Nine Lake Orion swimmers have qualified for the Michigan High School Division I state meet, to be held at the University of Michigan on March 12-13.
The Dragons are coached by Paul Fairman (OAA Division II Coach of the Year), Greg Palmer and Kerry Sementkowski
