Close the streets, plug in the lights, and alert Santa? Goodrich’s Downtown Christmas will be glowing from 5-9 p.m., Dec. 5 as the local holiday tradition is sure to provide plenty of cheer.
‘We are very excited about the downtown Christmas this year,? said Patty Plant, owner of Cranberries Cafe, 10250 Hegel Road, downtown Goodrich. ‘There’s plenty of new activities to kick off the holiday season.
‘Just like last year Santa can now arrive with ease as Hegel Road will be closed in the downtown area during the celebration. It’s safe and plenty of Christmas fun downtown for the entire family. There will also be a downtown Christmas tent for crafts and other holiday items. Keep the chill away and step into our tent.?
At 6:30 p.m., Santa Claus will be seeking both the nice and naughty of Goodrich’parking his sleigh and catching a ride on the Atlas Township Fire Department truck, arriving at the village Christmas tree on Hegel Road across from Cranberries Cafe. Visitors can hear the stories of Christmas at the Goodrich Library and sing along with the Goodrich United Methodist Church Choir as they welcome the season in with some traditional carols. Check out a variety of street vendors including Kettlebears Popcorn and Porter’s Orchard. Take a free ride wagon ride offered by Top-Hill Farms, 5767 Fox Road, Goodrich.
The streets will be lined with luminaries courtesy of Goodrich Boy Scout Troop 340. At 6 p.m. the Community Christmas tree will be lighted, followed by Pastor John Grimshaw, of Lakeview Community Church leading the community in prayer and the story of Christmas. The evening will also feature the Goodrich United Methodist Church choir.
The Ladies Library Museum in downtown Goodrich will be open from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The museum will feature Roger Rossman, who will be playing Christmas music on the antique pump organ from 8-8:20 p.m. A new exhibit is now on display, loaned by Frank Hecht, who owned and operated Hecht’s Pharmacy, the last drug store operating in Goodrich’s downtown block. This exhibit of pharmacy supplies and equipment was used by Goodrich drug store owners dating back to the late 1800’s. Hot chocolate and cookies will also be available, courtesy of the historical society.
At 6 p.m. (judging at 7 p.m.) a bake off competition at the library will be held, entries available at Cranberries and the Goodrich Library.
