Bowlers off to good start

The Oxford Boys bowling team dominated the Berkley bears on Dec. 10 at Collier Lanes. Leading the way was Co-Captain Luke Delong with games of 191 and 214. Others that bowled well were Christian Cartner with a nice 220 game, Davis Staser 218, Tanner Cartner 203, Will Fallon 201 and Tristan Boice with 200.
‘The Bears program is rebuilding so we were able to get everyone some action tonight,? said Head Coach JR. Lafnear. ‘We bowled well but still made a lot of early mistakes. We’ll clean that up and keep striving to improve.?
On Dec. 12 the entire Wildcat bowling team went to the Cougar Classic at Imperial Lanes. Oxford sent a Varsity boys and girls team as well as two JV Boys and one JV Girls? team. There were 22 Varsity boys teams, two JV Boys teams, 18 Varsity Girls and 12 JV Girls teams.
‘This is one of the largest and toughest fields we go to each year,? Lafnear explained. ‘The format is bowl three regular games and two baker games to cut the field. Then bowl head to head to crown a champion.?
When all was done the Wildcats had three of the five teams make it to the final four. Both girls teams bowled well and lost in the championship match and finished second, while the varsity boys team lost in the final four match and then won the consolation match to capture third.
The Wildcats were also represented well in singles as well. Winning medals and being named to all Tournament teams were Marissa Smith, Tanner and Christian Cartner, Luke Meyer, Will Fallon and Alex Vitinaros.
‘I was so proud of our entire team today. Even though we fell short of winning first, as a whole we competed well today. To get three of five teams in the top three and a fourth team finished fifth was as good as we could have dreamed of,? Lafnear added. ‘There are strong programs here and that wasn’t an easy task. We still have much to improve on but this shows we can bowl with the best and compete.?
