Carnegie Hall bound

Brandon Twp.- The Brandon High School show choir is New York bound.
The choir has been selected to perform at New York City’s Carnegie Hall in June as part of the Ron Winans Tribute Concert.
‘It’s the ultimate experience,? said Debbie Sebetic, choir director. ‘It’s a wonderful way to cap off the experience with the seniors.?
The show choir consists of 30 members and is the ‘top-flight? choir at BHS, performing at multiple festivals and solo and ensemble competitions. The choir was at the International Spiritual Festival competition in Detroit earlier this fall out of a desire to learn how to perform spirituals better and Sebetic was stunned when following the choir’s performance they were asked to audition for the tribute concert.
Ron Winans was the second eldest of 10 children in the Winans family and a member of the Grammy-winning gospel quartet The Winans. He died June 17 in Detroit.
The show choir received a letter from the Winans family Dec. 7, asking them to come to New York to perform with them on June 30, which would have been Ron Winans 50th birthday. Four other choirs were also selected to perform- one from Ohio and the others from Battle Creek, Cadillac and Dexter.
‘We’ll perform at least one gospel song and perform one of Ron Winan’s unpublished pieces with the other four groups,? Sebetic said. ‘It’s very inspiring.?
