Brandon Twp.- Before the snow fliesand winter grips the area’the Community Emergency Response Team wants to know the senior citizens and other residents who may need a little help.
The Brandon Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), an all-volunteer group of citizens who serve their community in times of emergencies and special events, is seeking assistance in updating their list of residents who may need to be checked on.
‘We are updating a list individuals regardless of age that are homebound, disabled, elderly or people that may not have family in the area,? said Dave Kwapis, Brandon fire chief.
‘The information will remain confidential and is a self-identification and self-referral program. Our old list was out of date and many of the residents had moved away or are deceased’the CERT team will now be able to check on the residents in times of emergency.?
CERT checks on seniors or persons in need by phone calls and in person during power outages, wind storms, serious hot or cold spells and requested by the fire chief to check on those in the community that are vulnerable.
‘The CERT team will be dressed in green and white shirts when they arrive at homes and have identification,? added Kwapis.
The form requires a name, address, phone number and the phone number of a relative or friend to call in case the CERT can’t make contact.
