Closed skate park wrong for village

Dear Editor,
(In response to:’Township to hire new monitor for Ortonville skate park,? The Citizen, Sept. 12, page 7).
I am astounded that Bob Roerink has lost his job because of this said ‘violation.? I do not understand why he was not permitted to do this. Is it that the village was not able to get their hands on any money that was made from these sales?
My kids go to the skate park and have purchased drinks from Bob. What he charges for these drinks is minimal so it’s not like he is making a profit from it. I’m sure it’s just enough to cover his costs. I would rather my children have the opportunity to purchase these drinks from him rather them have to leave the park to go to a local store. He provided healthy drink choices at $1.00, like water and Arizona Iced Tea. He did not offer pop.
I have spent time at the park while Bob was monitoring and he did a wonderful job. He was truly there for the kids. I always felt safe to leave my kids there when Bob was on duty. He even organized a fundraiser to help raise money to purchase things for the kids that come to the park. It is truly a loss to have him absent from the park.
Since his absence it is my understanding the park had to be closed because with no monitor like him there things returned to a hangout for the hoodlums Bob was able to keep away.
Once again the village has ruined something good because of their greed and lack of administration that understands what it is to be a community.
