Michael Cameron knows electronics.
After seven years in the United States Navy as an electronics technician assigned to a 500-foot destroyer sailing in the west Pacific, followed by a decade stint with General Motors at the Warren Technology Center’Cameron has acquired a vast knowledge of computer technology.
‘Whether a virus, hardware problem or software, I can help right here in Ortonville,? said Cameron, owner of Compete PC Repair, 252 S. Ortonville Road which provides professional computer repair and service.
‘I opened my business about a year ago. Since then my business has been increasing’the need for computer repair is growing.?
Cameron, 41, a 1986 Brandon High School graduate and earned an associate of arts degree in 1996.
After more than a decade with General Motors and enduring the perils of big business, Cameron said he was eager to open his local business.
‘There are a lot more laptops out there than a year ago,? he said.
‘It’s very important that if something is wrong with a customer’s computer I have it back to them in a few days, rather than weeks. For many small home businesses, their laptop is a major part of their income.?
Cameron said the power and quality of the desktop computer has increased over the past few years.
‘There are more common parts today,? he said. ‘A host of viruses are out there’that’s the typical problem. There’s a solution to all of them. Right now I’m finding a strange problem with ‘Vista.? Windows 7 is much better.?
Unlike the big box stores that sell computers, Cameron does not send the customers? computers out for repairs.
‘I can fix the problem right here in my store and order the parts necessary,? he said.
‘I can get it done at a lower cost and much faster than waiting a few weeks to get your computer back.?
