District receives stimulus funds for special needs students

Goodrich- The school district recently received $382,377 in federal stimulus funds to be used for special needs students.
District Superintendent John Fazer made the announcement at the July board of trustees meeting.
The amount received is based on the number of special need students in the districts and can be used over a two year period to improve educational services for special needs.
‘The intent will be to enhance the special needs students education,? said Fazer. ‘We are still developing how we are going use this money’we want to make sure this money, from the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA), will make an impact.
‘The funds are earmarked to create systemic change, and long-term result in assisting our special education students, said Fazer. ‘They can be utilized in the areas of assisted technology, supplies, professional development and salaries. They can be used to save or create jobs, improve student achievement through school improvement and reform, ensure transparency in reporting and accountability.?
