Donation to aid hospice

Goodrich-It’s been said money can’t buy happiness, but $1,100 is about the ease a lot of pain.
With Oxford Bank’s presentation of an oversized check on Feb.13 to Genesys Home and Hospice Care, 7280 S. State Road in Goodrich, hospice will be able to afford a much needed hydrocollator.
‘Hydrocollator? is a big word for a simple idea’a machine capable of providing patents with regulated, moist heat therapy.
Moist heat is thought to be more therapeutic and penetrating than dry heat, such as a heating pad offers, said Mike Merrill, hospice community outreach coodinator.
The hydrocollator works by heating a small pouch filled with heat absorbing silicone-like beads in water, explained Merrill.
Unlike soaking towels in warm water, only to have them cool within minutes, the heat pouch stays a consistent temperature for 20-30 minutes, Merrill said.
Merill hopes to have the machine at Genesys Home and Hospice by the week on Feb.27.
When Oxford Bank decided to make a charitable donation to an organization within the community, hospice was ultimately decided upon as the recipient.
‘We’re very appreciative of Oxford Bank,? said Karen Ogden, director of clinical services at hospice. ‘They approached us. It was a wonderful surprise.?
Ogden said that after being offered the donation from Oxford Bank, she knew immediately how the money could best be spent.
