Four vie for township treasurer in August primary

Groveland Twp.-Voters will find a mixed field of incumbents and newcomers for township offices in the August primary election.
Incumbent Township Supervisor Bob DePalma, 56, will run unopposed seeking a fourth term of office. He was appointed to office in May 1996 following the death of longtime township supervisor Don Titsworth. DePalma was first elected in November 1996. Incumbent Township Clerk, Pam Mazich, 60, has been in office since 2000 after working as deputy clerk from 1988-2000. She is also running unopposed.
Four new candidates have entered the race for township treasurer following the retirement of Shirley Scramlin, who had served for more than 25 years.
David Ax, 59, has been a township trustee for 16 years and is a federal mine safety investigator. Additionally, for the past 29 years Ax has handled budget, health, safety and risk management for a local transportation company.
Also running for treasurer is Robert Renchik, an investment advisor with Raymond James Financial Services and business owner. Renchik is the chairman of the Ortonville Downtown Development Authority, MainStreet and has served two terms as DDA treasurer.
Pam Que, 48, will challenge for the township treasurer seat after serving on the township planning commission for 13 years. Que is co-owner of UniQue Concrete company. Laura Lawrence will also challenge for the treasurer position.
Seeking one of two township trustee seats in the August primary is Hal Coxon, 54, a township resident for 16 years. He is an account manager for Bayer Material Science and has been on the township planning commission for about 10 years. Candidate Arlene Thompson and incumbent trustee Diane Howell did not respond. All candidates in the Aug. 5 primary election are running on the Republican ticket.
