Goodrich-By a vote of 6-0 on Monday night, the school board of trustees approved Greg Main to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Trustee Ryan Starski in January.
Prior to the formal vote, Main was selected from eight candidates that applied for the temporary board position. After posting the seat opening the school board conducted interviews on Jan. 23.
‘It was a difficult choice,? said David Cramer, board president. ‘The potential candidates were very qualified for the open board position.?
Main, 45, a 1986 Goodrich High School graduate, received a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1991, a bachelor’s degree in business from U of M, Flint in 2000 and a master’s in business administration from U of M, Flint in 2011. He is an accounting and finance professional in the southeastern Michigan area with 15 years experience in the home building industry and 20 years overall. He also served several years as an accounting manager and assistant controller.
‘I grew up in the area and have two children in the Goodrich district,? said Main. ‘I’m proud of this community and will work diligently to keep the level of education in the district up and stay in the top schools in the county. Over the course of the past three years several have suggested I run for school board and now it’s time. I want to give back to a community that’s my home.?
Main said he plans on running for the school board seat permanently in the November election.
‘When I was a student at Goodrich I was never the smartest student, but the teachers emphasized to me the importance of education,? he said. ‘And if I wanted to go to the University of Michigan I need to step it up and get serious about education. Now as a school board member I will continue to push to get those test scores up to the highest level for the success of the students and the district.?
Greg and his wife Jennie have been married for 19 years and have two children Justin, 15 and Abby, 12.
