Goodrich Schools host Division 3 football playoff game

Goodrich- A cold day in November did not keep nearly 2,000 football fans from high school playoff action.
On Nov. 23, the high school’s Roy U. Stacey Athletic Complex was the site of the Michigan High School Athletic Association Football Division 3 Semi-Final Game between DeWitt High School (13-0) and St. Clair High School (11-2). The game was the first tournament game ever played at the complex since renovations in 2011.
Nate Hampton, assistant director for the Michigan High School Athletic Association, visited the Roy U. Stacey Athletic Complex earlier in November, said Scott Bogner, district superintendent.
‘The decision was made based on location and seating capacity,? said Bogner. ‘Hampton called after their visit to Goodrich and set up the game. From there, Dave Davis, district athletic director, took over and did a great job of coordinating the event. With the exception of some very cold weather, which may have kept some spectators away, it went very well.?
Davis, along with about 20 volunteers, organized the playoff game which included off-site parking and a shuttle bus at Oaktree and the middle school. While final numbers were not in as of presstime, approximately 1,900 fans attended the football game at a cost of $6 per person. The district received 20 percent of the gate receipts, about $2,200 in revenues.
‘This game was a great way to showcase the school and community,? added Bogner. ‘This will also help bring revenue into the community when fans come to watch.?
The DeWitt Panthers edged the St. Clair Saints 21-20.
