Goodrich students prepare to strut their prom stuff

GOODRICH SCHOOLS – They dance, they twirl, they look suave. They are the students at Goodrich High School in this year’s Prom Fashion Show.
The 2003 show is being produced by Glitz Salons this year, and the result is an all out stage spectacular.
“The vision for this years show is very eclectic,” said Glitz Salons art director Jen Planck. “The idea was to echo Broadway and make the show modern, fun and exciting all in one.”
A total of 64 students are featured in the show, showing off the latest in formal wear for the 2003 prom season. Along with the classic formal wear, the show will feature avant garde themes such as dresses made out tulle, and a duct tape dress designed by Goodrich freshman Kurt Brewer.
“I think some people will be shocked, but in a good way,” Planck said.
The Goodrich Dance Team will light up the stage this year by performing between sets and with the models.
“We love working with Goodrich,” Planck said. Goodrich, however, is not the only school which features Glitz as their prom fashion show producers. Over the last four years, Glitz has put on shows at other area schools and are highly sought after. There is now a waiting list of schools who want to have their prom fashion shows produced by the salon.
This year at Goodrich, the show not only features students modeling prom wear, it also has students dancing and acting.
“This is a point of pride for the students and the community,” Planck mentioned. “It also allows people to see another side of our salon.”
Glitz hair and makeup artists will help make all the students shine, but it is lots of work.
“We will be starting hair and make-up at noon, and the show is not until 7 p.m.,” said Cheri Barnett, Glitz Salons owner and a Goodrich resident and parent.
“The show is a lot of hard work,” Planck said. “We have spent a year planning this show and are excited about it. It’s all about the kids, and that is why we do it.”
“I am excited about this show because the kids are excited, and they’re having fun with it,” Barnett said. “They are being so cooperative and working hard. It’ll be a fabulous show.”
Perhaps the biggest plus to the prom fashion show is that 100 percent of the ticket sales will go to the Goodrich Class of 2004 to help fund the prom.
The show will be at 7 p.m. Sunday March 9 in the Goodrich High School cafetorium. Tickets are available at the door, $5 for adults, and $3 for students.
