Groveland Twp. – Groveland state police troopers have made more than 27 alcohol or drug-related arrests this month alone.
Thanks to a federally-funded Youth Alcohol Enforcement Grant that allowed the state police post an additional 80 man-hours, troopers worked overtime to catch offenders at DTE concerts.
At Aug. 12 and Aug. 17 concerts, police arrested offenders who’d driven from as near as Oakland County or as far away as Ontario to party at the concerts.
Offenders ranged in age from 18 to 45 and were arrested either as under-age drinkers or for marijuana possession. A juvenile was also apprehended.
Although no figures are yet available, a number of offenders were also arrested at an Aug. 22 concert, said Sgt. Dave Wiegand, of the Groveland post.
The goal is to cut down on drinking and drug use at concerts, Wiegand said.
Problems occur mostly in parking lots, with alcohol or drugs being supplied by older friends and brought in by car.
Wiegand isn’t saying which concerts police will be patrolling, but cautions concert-goers.
‘We’re out there,? he said.
