Groveland Twp. fire

Groveland Twp.- Just after midnight on Aug.23, township firefighters responded to the 15000 block of Warden Road for a residential structure fire. Township Fire Chief Steve McGee said when firefighters arrived flames were visible from the single-story home. The fire was limited to the side of the home where a deck was attached and several propane tanks were located, said McGee. In addition, an overhead power wire was also arcing on the lawn in the vicinity of the blaze. The fire was reported by a young female in the home, who smelled smoke and heard the fire. She awoke her parents who were also in the home at the time and exited the home. McGee said there were no smoke alarms at the residence.
‘We not sure if the propane caused or accelerated the fire,? said McGee. ‘The LP is heavier than air and will seek the lowest level. So if there is a crack in the window or foundation of a home it could accumulate down there. Keep these tanks away from the house. The potential is there to ignite.?
Township firefighters were assisted by Holly, Springfield Township and NOCFA. No injuries were reported and the cause still remains under investigation. The home was not a total loss.
