How you can help the hurricane relief effort

Randy Wise Ford Ortonville, 968 Ortonville Road will donate $100 to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina relief fund for each vehicle sold during September. The Ortonville dealership will join other area Randy Wise automotive team in an effort to sell 500 vehicles during September, raising $50,000. Details: (248) 627-3730.
From 1-6 pm, Sept. 18, Bullfrogs 2225 Ortonville Road will host an event for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. An Ortonville banner with each business or resident name that donated will be on display at the restaurant. Bullfrogs will also donate 50 percent of their proceeds from the event. Until Sept. 18, In Motion USA, 4 N. Ortonville Road, M-15 will accept monetary donations for the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. Those giving can sign their name to a red cross on display in the gym. Details: Jessica (248) 627-7020.
From 11 am- 9 pm, Sept.16, the A&W 470 South St., will donate all the gross income plus wages and tips of all the employees to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. Details: (248) 627-2670.
Ak’Wa Water, 255 Narrin Road, Ortonville, will donate water and labor for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Needed are donations for packaging including caps, bottles and boxes. Details: (248) 627-3747.
The Ortonville United Methodist Church, 319 Sherman Ct., Ortonville is collecting Flood Buckets consisting of a five gallon bucket with resealable lid, five scouring pads, seven sponges, one scrub brush, 18 cleaning towles, liquid laundry detergent, one can household cleaner, disinfectant dish soap, 50 clothes pins, 100 feet clothes line, five dust masks, two pair latex gloves, one pair work, gloves, 24-bag roll of heavy-trash bags one insect repellant spray, one can air freshener. Shipping funds are also needed make checks payable to the Ortonville UMC please write Katrina Relief on the memo line. A multi-family garage sale to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina will be from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m., Sept. 17 at 2770 East Seymour Lake Road in Brandon Township. Items will include knick-knacks, clothing, furniture and other miscellaneous items. Refreshments will also be available for purchase, with proceeds also going to hurricane relief. Coins for Katrina, a hurricane relief collection effort by students of Belle Ann Elementary, will continue this week. Faculty and parents are also encouraged to participate. Belle Ann is located at 155 E. Glass Road. Details: (248) 627-1860.
H.T. Burt Elementary, 209 Varsity Drive, is having a penny drive for hurricane relief. Students, faculty and parents are being asked to bring in all their pennies to the school. Details: (248) 627-1880.
Brandon Fletcher Intermediate School, 300 South St., is planning fun days throughout the month. Sept. 16 is Crazy Hair Day, Sept. 23 is Pajama Day and Sept. 30 is Hat Day. Each Friday participating students donate 50 cents, which will be given to the American Red Cross. A spare change jug will also be in the school’s cafeteria until the end of September for hurricane relief. Checks are accepted and should be made out to the American Red Cross. Brandon High School, 1025 S. Ortonville Road, will have a change drive through Sept. 15, with giant Coke bottles in the cafeteria from 10:45 a.m.- 12:25 p.m. daily with all donations going to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. Make checks payable to Brandon High School and the school will write one check for the Red Cross. Donations will also be accepted at the next home football game, Sept. 16. Goodrich Middle School, 7480 Gale Road, will accept donations for hurricane relief at their office, through Sept. 15 at least. Details: (810) 591-4210.
Oaktree Elementary, 7500 South Gale Road, will have Hat for Hurricane Week from Sept. 12-16. Students will be allowed to wear hats to school, for a $1 donation per day. During Goodrich Homecoming Week, Sept. 19-23, the school will also have spirit days, during which participating students give a $1 donation for each day they participate. Teachers will also be able to wear blue jeans every Friday throughout the year by making donations to hurricane relief. All proceeds benefit the Red Cross.
