It’s all about community

Brandon Twp.- Family activities, live music and plenty of food’has been the recipe for one local church to show what they are all about.
On Saturday, an estimated 1,200 attended Oakwood Community Church’s fourth annual Community Fair, an increase from about 800 last year, say fair leaders, Bruce Parris and Lynda Mitchell.
‘The best part is, it is all free,? said Parris.
Some of the events included beanbag tossing, inflatable moon walks, homemade food provided by church members, live entertainment from the band, Men of Grace, and a car show. Complimentary health screenings for blood pressure and blood sugar, as well as an ambulance tour and smoke house were offered for children to instruct them about fire safety.
Proceeds from the event helped fund God’s Helping Hands, Lighthouse, and Oxford-Orion Fish.
To help make this yearly event possible, two auctions where hosted, with goods donated from nearby community businesses.
‘The fair is a great outreach to the community, plus it helps to let everyone know that we are just normal people who like to have fun, too,? said Sue Lane, church member.
