New businesses coming to township

Brandon Twp.- An area developer has confirmed a national retail store will break ground in October near the corner of M-15 and the entrance to Brandon High School.
Local developer Mike Riddle, of township-based Rison Construction and Lockwood LLC, said Dollar General received site plan approval from the township planning commission on Aug. 10 with some conditions to construct a 9,169-square-foot building. There will be 30 parking places and one entrance off M-15. The business will be across the street from the business currently owned by Harrison Hoe, 1358 Ortonville Road.
Riddle’s plan for a multiple-business development was presented by partner Steve Collins, also representing Lockwood LLC, to the township planning commission on June 9, 2007. The commission approved the preliminary general site plan, which featured about 122,000 square-feet of retail space between eight separate buildings, by a 7-0 vote.
The Dollar General store will be the second parcel to be constructed at the development. In February 2009 officials from Genisys Credit Union, formerly T & C Federal Credit Union, confirmed the purchase of 1.83 acres of vacant property with M-15 frontage, south of Brandon High School. Genisys Credit Union is currently located locally at 250 N. Ortonville Road, Ste. B, in the plaza with Bueche’s Food World, and is unable to offer a drive-thru.
In addition Riddle said a national food chain is close to purchasing a parcel in the same development.
‘I’m not at liberty to say just which chain will build here,? he said. ‘But it’s going to help spark some business here in Brandon Township.?
