Peyton Pollard has been busy this summer.
The 5-year-old Ortonville resident has raised two rabbits; three chickens; one goat and a pony. Plus, t-shirt stenciling; cookie, cake and banana bread baking while creating unique handcrafted soap.
The ambitious youth’s early summer livestock and crafts will be on display in the 4-H competition at the Oakland County Fair July 5-14.

There is plenty else to experience at the fair this year, too.
The fair, which began at Pontiac fairgrounds in the Civil War era and moved in 1971 to Springfield Oaks County Park, 12451 Andersonville Road, Davisburg, will feature 650 exhibitors, who are bringing more than 6,000 exhibits, ranging from animals to arts and crafts.
Ortonville resident Terri Burnett, fair vice president, said it’s a great family activity.
“The fair is great entertainment for the community,” she said. “Many events are free attractions for all ages. The kids are out of school now and there are many learning experiences to check out. Where else are you going to see goat milking or a calf birth? “
Main events include, Figure 8 races, a rodeo, open horse show, off-road derby, monster trucks, and Big Rock Carnival; the ever-popular racing pigs; the Miracle of Birth barn; a condor show along with a massive fireworks display.
“There is no better place to be then the Oakland County Fair,” she said. “You get to learn about the animals, anyone can enter, it’s not just 4-H anymore. Everyone can participate in some way.”
The fair has a different theme each day. For more information and a complete schedule of events, visit www.oakfair.org.
