Can two divorced men share an apartment without driving each other crazy?
Find out this Friday and Saturday as the Oxford High School Drama Club presents its production of Neil Simon’s classic comedic play The Odd Couple.
Join senior Darren Johnston as he portrays neurotic, neat freak and commercial photographer Felix Unger while senior Danny Inman plays New York sports writer and cigar-smoking, super slob Oscar Madison.
Simon’s wildly successful play ran from 1965 to 1967. It was made into a classic movie in 1968 and later ran as a hit television series from 1970 to 1975.
Here’s how Simon summed up his play in a one-sentence treatment he originally submitted to Paramount, who financed the stage play sight-unseen:
‘Two men ‘one divorced and one estranged and neither quite sure why their marriages fell apart ? move in together to save money for alimony and suddenly discover they’re having the same conflicts and fights they had in their marriages.?
Portraying Felix and Oscar’s priceless poker buddies in the OHS production are freshman Nick Risinger (as Murray), junior Robert Beard (as Roy), senior Matt Heffelmire (as Speed), and senior Mike Murphy (as Vinnie).
Freshman Chelsea Landry and senior Samantha Shafto play the cuckoo Pigeon sisters, Gwendolyn and Cecily. Their double date scene with Felix and Oscar is a riot.
Senior Amy Verbeke is directing the OHS production.
Performances will take place in the new OHS Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26. Tickets are $5 each.
