Ortonville house fire

A couch too close to a fireplace was the cause of a village house fire Tuesday. A passer-by called 9-1-1 at 12:55 a.m., Feb. 2 to the 100 block of Mill Street for a house fire. Three minutes later, Brandon firefighters arrived at the blaze where flames were coming through the living room area. The male tenant and a friend were home at the time of fire and safely exited the home. Brandon Fire Chief David Kwapis said the fire at the single story home, which was equipped with smoke detectors, was knocked down quickly.
Detective Scott Pasini Oakland County Sheriff Office fire investigator arrived on the scene at about 2 a.m. to determine the cause of the blaze which created smoke damage to the structure. Pasini said there was no foul play in the fire. The home is set for foreclosure on Feb. 15.
