Brandon Twp. — During the regular Monday night meeting, the Brandon Township board of Trustees voted 7-0 to approve the first reading on the Mobile Food Establishments ordinance. The ordinance would give parameters for the building inspector, Jason Wilton, to regulate things like food trucks in the township.
“All the festivals and stuff we have, we have to have something for Jason to enforce,” said Jayson Rumball, township supervisor. “We didn’t have any rules. They were just using fire codes because we didn’t have any rules for them.”
The ordinance defines the difference between a food cart, food trailer and food truck. It also outlines that all mobile food establishments must obtain an annual fire inspection, a mobile food establishment permit, an Oakland County Health Department permit, and any permits required by the state of Michigan.
The full ordinance is available at brandontownship.us. It will come back to the board for a second reading.
