Program to highlight African mission work

Area residents can ‘visit Africa? without leaving town at a special presentation on the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Saturday, May 14, at 6 p.m. at St. Daniel Catholic Church’s Cushing Center.
Presenter Dr. Anne-Marie Kup? will show images and talk about the current situation in the Congo. Through its tithing program, parishioners have been helping to support orphans, poor schoolchildren, malnourished and sick youth in the Kikwit area of the Congo in recent years.
‘The religious woman in charge of this effort is desperate and at a loss on how to cope with the extreme need with the very limited resources available,? Dr. Kup? said. ‘As the country’s general situation continues to deteriorate because of political anarchy and civil war, the number of youth needing help has increased significantly.?
Attendees also will learn how they can help meet these children’s basic needs. A spaghetti dinner will be served.
‘We invite the community to stop by for dinner and fellowship while hearing about the Congo and the important work being conducted,? Dr. Kup? said.
