Brandon Twp.-On Monday night, Kathy Thurman, township supervisor presented an award of recognition and appreciation to Oakland County Deputy Overall.jpgEric Overall.
His son Ken Overall was present to accept the award.
Deputy Eric Overall, assigned to the township substation, was killed early Thanksgiving morning by Christopher Barek who was fleeing police. Overall was laying out Stop Sticks on M-15 near Seymour Lake Road and waiting for the car to go over them when he was struck.

Barek has been ordered a psychiatric evaluation and will appear in court again on Feb. 12.
“He was trying to save people that may have been down the road that could have been struck by this car,” said Thurman. “We are very appreciative of what he has done for the community and we are presenting him for invaluable bravery and courage.”
The rest of the board members gave their thanks to both Overall and Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Brandon substation commander Lieutenant Greg Glover, who attended the meeting.
“I say basically the same thing every meeting, and that is no matter the size of the community, no matter the location of the community, public safety personnel are always putting themselves on the line to make sure that we stay safe in our homes,” said Bob Marshall, trustee. “Thanksgiving morning was a prime example of that when Deputy Overall lost his life.”
Marshall also went on to say how proud he was of the community who came out to support the family and the fellow officers on Sunday Nov. 26 for the candlelight vigil, describing it as ‘overwhelming support.’
