Village officials are seeking a new monitor for the skate park after terminating Bob Roerink Sept. 1 for disciplinary reasons.
‘He was selling concessions against the wishes of the village officials,? said Village Manager Ed Coy.
‘He had been warned about this previously. We are looking to hire another skate park monitor.?
Roerink was hired in the spring of 2008 to counteract problems at the skate park located at the corner of Ball and Cedar streets. Those problems have included vandalism, noise, littering, and profanity.
Coy said the village plans to continue to address issues with a skate park monitor that will keep the park safe, make sure rules are adhered to, that decorum is maintained and noise kept to a minimum. The monitor will earn $10 per hour and work 24 hours per week from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 8 p.m. Saturdays.
The Village Skate Park remains open from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and is closed Sundays, Mondays and holidays. Coy said the village council will likely discuss at their Sept. 14 meeting the length of the skate park season.
Last year, the park closed at the end of September. In prior years, the park closed at the end of October.
