Which issues do you most want to address if elected and how will you do this?: Meet our budgetary constraints by doing what is best for students. Provide a smooth leadership transition by doing what is best for students. Become a better school district by doing what is best for students.
How will you balance the responsibility of representing constituents and working with board members?: A school board must work together for the benefit of our children. Members must listen to community members and do individual homework to determine the best decisions. Open sharing of concerns and ideas is essential.
Number of school board meetings previously attended in this district: During 8 years on the board, approximately 115. Prior to being elected in 1997, approximately 15 over a 2-year period.

Residency: Brandon Township resident; residing in Brandon Township for nine years; property owner for 15 years.
Occupation: Interior designer, business owner (six years); substitute teacher (three years); active community volunteer: St. Anne Church; Brandon All Sports Boosters; BGO, Lake Louise/Huff Lake Board member; Ortonville Historical Society; Creekfest; and Christmas in the Village.
Family, including school district children attend: Born in Warren, Michigan, 1967, one of eight children; married to Scott, 1986; I am the only candidate with children in the district: Andrea, 14, attends Brandon High School; Sam, 12, attends Brandon Middle School.
Education, experience, skills: Bachelor degree, additional 24 credits of law school; accredited testing/evaluation administrator; helped develop curriculum/programs; Brandon Township Stormwater Management Educator; certified in Junior Great Books (gifted/talented); trained in Reading Recovery (remedial reading); past PTA board member.
Which issues do you want to address if elected and how will you do this?: State education standards are becoming stricter but there is less money available. Seeking alternative funding through grants, endowments, private and corporate donations are viable option that could help take Brandon Schools to the next level.
How will you balance the responsibility of representing constituents and working with board members?: As an advocate for children, I am willing to listen to constituents and use common sense while balancing the professional responsibilities of working with a team of board members.
Number of school board meetings previously attended in this district?: Attending all but three school board meetings in the last year, remaining updated through board minutes. As a parent/community member, participated with the superintendent search by attending the interviews and both school site visits of the finalist. (edit for length? 38 words.)
