Former Brandon staffer pleads no contest

Brandon Twp.-A former Brandon High school in-house detention room employee pleaded no contest to charges of criminal sexual conduct (CSC) on Oct. 11, before Oakland Circuit Judge Nanci J. Grant. He will be sentenced Dec. 14.
Jodi Keck, 28, was arrested Feb. 26 in connection with the alleged assault on an 18-year old high school senior which occurred on Feb. 16. The student was in the In-House detention class at the time of the assault and reported the incident to school authorities. Keck, a Shiawassee County resident with no prior convictions resigned within 24 hours of the report.
Assistant Oakland Prosecutor Ken Frazee said the criminal sexual conduct plea is 100 percent the same as guilty when it comes to sentencing however, with the plea Keck may avoid civil liability. Keck faces a possible 15 years in prison if convicted of the felony.
Although a licensed teacher, Keck was working as an hourly employee in the Brandon District at the time of the incident.
Originally, Judge Dana Fortinberry of 52-2 District Court in Clarkston issued the warrants for third-degreeCSC, a 15-year felony; and fourth-degree CSC, a two-year misdemeanor.
