Dear Editor:
CROP Walk 2008, Ortonville community’s 28th walk to relieve poverty worldwide, as well as right here in Ortonville, took place on a lovely Sunday afternoon, Sept. 21. Sixty-seven willing walkers raised a total of nearly $5,000, which will go to Church World Service for distribution. Twenty-five percent will be returned to the OCEF food pantry.
The CROP Walk committee thanks all who participated in any way to make this fundraiser happen: kitchen helpers, crossing guards, registrars, those who set up water stops, musicians who sang and bagpiped the walkers off, the V.F.W., the ‘gofers? who did whatever was needed, everyone who signed up sponsors and walked, and of course, the folks who responded in this time of financial hardship by pledging to the walkers. Thanks also to the merchants who contributed toward purchase of those spiffy red, white, and blue tote bags given to each walker and worker. The CROP Walk committee thanks you all on behalf of those whose lives will be made a bit easier with the money you helped raise.
Sue Howard and members of the committee
