Atlas Twp. —The Goodrich Martians extended their winning streak to 10 and tallied their third consecutive district championship on Nov. 8 with a 27-21 win over the visiting Freeland Falcons.
The Martians rolled up 367 yards of offense with only 60 in the air. The Falcons tallied 297 yards of total offense.
In the first quarter the Falcons jumped on the scoreboard first with a 64 yard run by FHS #1 Braden Petre. Then just three minutes later GHS #25 Chase Burnett took the ball in from two yards out. The point after was missed.
In the second quarter GHS #24 Jakoby Lagat carried the ball in from three yards out for the score and the extra point was good to end the half Martians 13- Falcons 7.
The Martians opened the scoring in the third quarter when GHS #16 Tanner Mazich completed a pass to #9 Max Macklem for 20 yards and the TD. The Martians were up 20-7 at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Falcons got back on the board with a one yard rush by #1 Branden Petre for a TD. The point after was missed, cutting the score 20-14. The Martians responded with a one yard rush by #25 Chase Burnett for a TD, making the score 27-13.
The Falcons were not finished with just 2:13 left in the game FHS #5 Jake Metiva completed a pass to #23 Zander Wheatley for 15 yards and a TD. the Martian defense held sealing the 27-21 win.
