The Town and Country African Violet Club hosted its 3rd Annual African Violet Show at the Oxford Public Library over the weekend.
A number of local and non-local violet growers pitted their colorful and intricate botanical creations against each other in the show.
Winning ‘Best in Show? was Southgate resident Steve Turner with his ‘Picasso.?
His partner Donna Caslow, also of Southgate, took ‘Second Best in Show? for her ‘Ma’s Soiree.?
Oxford resident Chris Leppard won ‘Third Best in Show? with her ‘Ness? Satin Rose.?
In addition to competition, a wide selection of exquisite African Violets of numerous varieties were sold to the general public.
The Town and Country African Violet Club meets at the Oxford Public Library on the second Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m.
The club’s monthly programs and activities provide a local source of information about African violets and how to grow them.
The local group is affiliated with the African Violet Society of America and dedicated to the culture and propagation of African Violets and related gesneriads.
