A $17,000 grant from the state Office of Highway Safety will help two area townships address issues of underage drinking during the busy prom and graduation seasons.
The grant will be shared by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department substations in Independence and Orion Townships.
OCSD Lieutenant Bruce Naile, commander of the Orion substation, said the grant money should last through the summer, and will particularly target special events, retailers and parties.
In addition to the enforcement aspect, the crack down project will be shared with the Traffic Improvement Association.
‘TIA will do the second part, which is public awareness,? Naile said.
