Martian softball setting sights on league title

Heading down the home stretch, the Goodrich softball team is still in the hunt for the Genesee Area Conference Red Division title.
The host Martians blanked Mt. Morris 15-0 in the first game of a scheduled May 10 doubleheader, as Goodrich received several key offensive contributions. The Martians are now 18-6 overall and 14-3 in GAC Red competition.
Jenni Brothers had four hits and scored four runs, while Kelsey Krych had three hits and three RBI, and Kristian Childress had three hits and two RBI.
The second game of the twin bill was halted because of weather, and is scheduled to resume May 24 at Mt. Morris, although Goodrich coach Rick Bescoe said he hopes the game will be moved back to Goodrich since that was where the game was being played at the time it was halted.
As the league campaign winds down, the Martians are expected to battle with LakeVille for the league championship, Bescoe said.
‘The next week or two, it should all sort itself out,? he said. ‘It’s a pretty tight race. A lot of things can happen in the next week or two.?
