Watson believes Goodrich boys soccer has potential to improve next season

Despite a subpar record this season, Goodrich boys soccer coach Josh Watson sees better days ahead for the Martians.
Goodrich’s season ended Oct. 19 with a 3-0 loss to visiting Lake Fenton in their district opener. The Martians finished the season with a record of 5-10-1.
Watson attributed the team’s record to a lack of offensive output, rather than defensive effort. In league competition this season, the Martians allowed only 19 goals, but scored only 19 themselves.
‘We were a very good defensive team for most of the year ? we just couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net,? he said.
However, Watson said there is a strong returning group of core players that should build a solid foundation for next season. ‘The sophomores stepped up a lot,? he said. ‘We have a good returning class for next year.?
Leading that group are sophomores Danny Eisinger, Adam Leppeck, Chad Marler, and Steve Harlow, along with goaltenders Andy Krause and Justin Van Linsowe.
Watson said if the Martians show a commitment to improving, they should be a much improved team next season.
‘We need to get stronger, and we need to learn to read the game better,? he said. ‘We should be one of the better teams in the league next year.?
