Brandon icers begin season on frozen pond with split

Brandon’s boys hockey team started off the 2004-05 campaign showing plenty of offense, but managing only a split of their first two games.
The Blackhawks won their most recent contest Nov. 20, defeating host Port Huron 4-0 to improve to 1-1 on the season.
Mike Cybulski kicked off the Brandon scoring with 3:27 left in the first period, connecting on assists from Steve Tallman and Mike Ross.
Brandon added two more goals in the second period. Tony Kraydich scored with 5:18 left on assists from Mike Ross and Chris Nuccio. Tallman followed up with 4:43 left in the period, scoring on an assist from Cybulski.
Matt Cinader wrapped up the Brandon scoring with 5:13 left in the third period, connecting on an assist from Brandon Newman.
Brandon goalie David Hughes recorded the shutout, stopping all 13 Port Huron shots. The Blackhawks committed two penalties in the game, compared to three for Port Huron.
The Blackhawks were on the losing end of a shootout Nov. 19, as Flint Kearsley earned a 6-5 win against host Brandon.
Kearsley’s Ladislav Revay scored at 7:51 of the first period, but Tallman scored an unassisted goal for the Blackhawks at 12:22 of the period. Kearsley regained the lead at 13:50 of the first on a goal from Eli Isaguirre.
Cybulski quickly tied things up for Brandon 14 seconds into the second period, scoring on assists from Tallman and Mike Ross. However, Kearsley regained the lead with two goals within a two-minute span, as Isaguirre and Matt Murdock put Kearsley up 4-2.
Isaguirre completed the hat trick for Kearsley at 8:08 of the second to give them a 5-2 lead. Cinader scored at 14:23 of the second on an assist from Newman to cut the Kearsley lead to 5-3.
However, Revay’s second goal at 2:45 of the third proved to be the decisive goal for Kearsley. The Blackhawks scored two more goals in the contest, as Ross scored on an assist from Tallman at 3:45 of the third, and Cybulski scored on an assist from Ross at 13:20 of the third.
