Village officials, people from the Michigan Department of Transportation and State Senator Mike Bishop checked out the Atwater/M-24 traffic light in November.
Lake Orion Police for several years have been asking for a left turn arrow onto Atwater due to the amount of accidents at the at intersection.
According to LO Village Manager JoAnn Van Tassel, the on-site visit lasted an hour, starting at 9 a.m.
‘It was surprising how many left turns were made during the hour we were out there. Northbound traffic regularly runs the yellow light rather than coming to a stop,? she said.
‘Traffic waiting to turn left often has to turn in front of on-coming traffic and hope the traffic stops. There were times when the left turning traffic waited through a complete signal cycle before attempting to turn.?
Bishop said he would stay on top of the issue until the village gets the turn arrow.
