Deputy treated after dog attacks

An Oakland County Sheriff’s Department deputy was treated after he was bitten by a labrador retriever at a residence on Indian Trail Road on Dec. 26.
According to an OCSD report, the deputy was responding to a barking dog complaint. He arrived at the home and saw the dog standing in the driveway, barking.
The deputy got out of his vehicle and began walking towards the garage. He said the dog was barking and had its ‘hackles? up, so he stepped to left and tried to go around it to get to the front door.
He said the dog attacked, biting him on the right hand and leaving two puncture wounds. The deputy deployed his issued spray after the dog came at him again, striking the dog in the eyes with several bursts.
The dog retreated momentarily, and the deputy was able to get back in his vehicle. He called for animal control and Orion Fire, and was treated at the scene for his injury.
The dog was found to have a valid Oakland County license, and was registered to a 33-year-old Rochester man.
